Two authors and two classics

Writer: Vanessa BettencourtVanessa Bettencourt

The Five Lamps : The Jewel of Wenzlo is a great start to an epic journey. 5 books, the next one will be released March.

I loved this first volume (I already know it's going to be 5  books. The title kinda hints to us). This is the perfect start for a series and introduces the characters well, the world, the magic system, and what they are fighting for.  The writing, plot, and characters fill us with nostalgia for classic titles like the Hobbit and the Redwall series. It's the same kind of pacing, too. There is action, but the story flows slowly.

I love animal characters with medieval settings and magic systems on a quest, good vs evil, and, of course, clever wizard mentors to guide a coming-of-age main character.

Bean is naive and sweet, but she is righteous, and she won't give up finding her kidnapped father; while she is on a quest with others to take a stone to safety, she is also learning more about the world, the politics, the legends and testing herself more and more.

I am looking forward to reading the next volume. I hope the author keeps the covers in the same style so we can collect the 5 in a pretty set.

Chase and the Last Dragon

Fun and whimsical adventures. It's very sweet that the father tells the story to the children (as the grandfather read the Princess Bride to his grandson) and the author uses illustrations made by his kids. that is very precious. That cat... the first illustration is so adorable it stayed in my mind and will remain. I love the creativity and the magical creatures.
