Zeke Zooter and the Eye of Balor. I got a free audiobook from the author, but the cover is very pretty it's worth collecting the physical copy too.
My review:
4.5/5 stars
This is a fun middle-grade and satisfying read filled with humor, Irish mythology, fantastical creatures, and adventure.
Male character-lead but with great supporting characters.
There is a good balance between the serious themes such as alcoholism, domestic violence the death of a parent, a child feeling a lot of guilt... and the fantastic journey to Ireland to help with the curse. Lots of action and very entertaining. My favorite part (before arriving in Ireland where the major fun begins) was the airport scene where the main character uses the power of wishes to change sizes.
The author read the audiobook (I was given a free copy of the audiobook) and I love the accents and the major enthusiasm. He even sings. I love the songs.

There are some pretty weird grown-ups in Bailey City!
There's a new guidance counselor at Bailey Elementary School and he's giving the kids the creeps. No one understands why his skin is so pale, why he hides from the sun, or why his skin is deathly cold to the touch. But Counselor Drake couldn't really be Count Dracula, could he?
